Fast Turnaround Steelwork for The Ivy, Newcastle

On 14 August, we received an urgent enquiry from a construction company working on the conversion of the former Lloyds Bank building on Grey Street in Newcastle city centre.

The building was being transformed into a new Ivy restaurant and the contractor had been let down at the last minute. They needed steelwork fabricated and installed quickly to keep the project moving and avoid delays to the trades due to follow us.

We went straight to site to carry out a survey and take the dimensions we needed. Within two days, the drawings were complete and the steel had been ordered. From there it was a real team effort.

The lads in the workshop worked around the clock to get the steelwork fabricated and ready for site. Our installation team were under just as much pressure, working to get everything erected safely while sticking to a very tight programme.

With help from some of the trusted subcontractors we regularly work with, we completed the steelwork and handed it over on 27 August, just 13 days after the original enquiry.

Getting the job finished on time meant the follow on trades could get started as planned and the wider restaurant fit out could continue without further delay.

It was a demanding couple of weeks, but a good example of what can be achieved when everyone pulls together and gets on with the job.
