Design, fabrication and installation of an access ramp

We recently completed a project that, while modest in scale, made a real difference to a local family. They contacted us after a family member became reliant on an electric wheelchair and could no longer leave the house safely. The customer needed an access ramp that would suit both the space and their specific needs.

We started with a full site survey to get the levels right and to make sure the ramp wouldn't be too steep. We then drafted some detailed drawings to confirm everything would be safe, solid and up to spec. The ramp needed to support the weight of both the wheelchair and the passenger, so proper planning was key.

We then fabricated the access ramp in our own fabrication workshop and once complete, it ramp went off for galvanising. This gives it a protective coating that'll last anywhere from 25 to 50 years. Although it's a simple process, it really makes all the difference when it comes to weather resistance and providing the ramp with long-term durability.

The customer also asked for a non-slip surface to keep things safe, especially in wet conditions. We used GRP fibreglass grid flooring, which not only has a built-in anti-slip finish but also lets water drain away quickly.

The NE Fabrication team then fully installed the ramp at the customer's residence and now getting in and out of the house is no longer a challenge.
